3 ways to rest and rejuvenate this weekend

The busier our lives are, the more important it is to build in time to rest and rejuvenate. It’s important to set aside time for rest, otherwise, you will always find a way to fill your time with work and the daily stresses of life. Not only is it bad for the mind but also the body. We’ve put this article together with some simple things to build into your daily life to help you rest and look after yourself.

#1 Rest your body.

Exercise

Exercising might sound the opposite from resting, not only can it make rest more rewarding, but even more restful. Research has shown exercise can raise the quality of sleep and boost chemicals in the body which are associated with mental health.

Why not try out some yoga? We all know this is a great way to unwind from a stressful day, while also providing gentle exercise.

That a bath

Warm baths are a great way to relax. They can help to soothe the skin, muscles and even make it easier to fall asleep. What better excuse to treat yourself to some me-time?

Get a massage

Massages help your body to relax. Even a quick hour massage might be just what you need to help that body rest.

#2 Rest your mind.

Meditate

Meditation has been practised for thousands of years. It is believed to have many positive effects on the body including lowering blood pressure, reducing anxiety while resting the mind. Not only that, but it’s a great way to rest without actually sleeping. So clear an hour and your mind and give meditation a go.

Listen to music

Listening to instrumental music or ambient noise such as the ocean, birds singing or even the wind can help you to relax. There’s plenty of Apps and playlists out there for that, or even better get outside and enjoy the real thing. Other great options include chimes, gongs or whatever instrumental music you might like.

Sleep

Try and get the right amount of sleep. Sleep is the one time where our mind really has time to rest and reboot. Give yourself enough time at night to get the amount of sleep your mind and body needs.

#3 Eat the right foods.

The right foods

It’s important to feed your body and surprisingly this can also impact rest. Foods that are high in tryptophan and vitamin B are believed to help sleep. You might also consider feeding your gut with the right things. If you haven’t already heard us shouting about the importance of a healthy gut, it’s something which can also impact rest.

The right times

Not only are the right foods important, but the time you eat them can also affect rest and your sleep. Eating and drinking at the right time is very important for the body. Try and keep to a routine and avoid eating too close to your bedtime.
